Day Sailboats

Day Sailboats are for fun in the sun! We mean that quite literally. Yes, you're going to want some wind as well but these sailboats are not much fun with rain clouds and stormy weather. The intent is for smooth sailing, quick trips and a day out on the water. For example, we would launch from Annapolis in the morning, cross under the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and head over to Kent Island for lunch. Then we would take a break, refill the cooler if needed and head back to the Sailing Mecca of Annapolis. Over ground, we covered about 15-20 miles tacking and jibing through the wind. It makes for a full day on the water and leaves plenty of time to come back and get some steamed crabs for dinner. It makes for a great day! That's what we recommend you consider when you are looking into sail boat plans. What are you going to use this boat to do? Do you have a plan for it? In our experience, no matter what the project, you have to have an end goal in mind. For this particular project, we think it helps to picture yourself out on the water, captain of your vessel and maneuvering through the wind. For day sailors, we still think it's a lot of fun to have a destination in mind. Certainly, take your time while you are sailing to get there but make a trip out of it. Maybe it's a quiet little cove on the lake where you intend on enjoying your lunch or perhaps a historic lighthouse. We always loved to dock and grab some lunch at a restaurant on the water. It always gave us a chance to break up the day and enjoy a new location before heading back home. In any case, thinking and planning those trips will make the building process that much more enjoyable for your very personalized sailboat (as will a set of boat building plans)!
