There are several types of dinghies that make great Day Sail Boats. This particular website has them listed as the "Semi-Dory", "V-bottom" and the "Prameke". For the semi-dory, they suggest that some purists wouldn't agree about the name. In any case, it is a nice all purpose boat. When it comes to sailing, the semi-dory is a perfect boat for a two person sail. We've listed the specifications below for the semi-dory and included a picture of the final product to the left. There are so many variations of day sail boats, you'll have to figure out what you want to build. There are little details that will jump out at you. Just click through, go through their plans and see what you like. It's really personal preference. On the right, we've include a picture of a v-bottom sail boat and below, we've listed some of the designed specifications for these sailboats (with more pictures of each sail boat class). Of course, there are so many options for small boats. On the surface, these boats might look very similar. Just a little dinghy with a sail, right? It just depends on who you are, I suppose. To my wife, these are just cute little sail boats and the most important part about them is the color of the sail being coordinated with the colors on the boat... and the name. It must have a great name! There are so many types of dinghies that can be used for day sailing. These types have been broken down into racing, cruising and classic dinghies. Racing dinghies are made for speed only and groomed for Olympic level competition. A serious racing dinghy has no room for creature comforts; it's just about the race. The cruising class is more for the family and day sailing around the lake. A little more thought is given to space and comfort. However, in the day sailing group, cabins are not part of the design. They just have a little extra space for mobility and aren't strictly concerned with speed. For the classic sail boats, they're all about style. They're made from wood and simply designed to show off their beauty. There's something historic and special about a classic wood boat. Anyway, take a look at the specifications below and click through to the design website if you want to learn more:
